On the banks of the Rio Uruguay, Salto has a charming historical centre and numerous spa resorts.

Salto sits on the banks of the Rio Uruguay River, in the north-western part of the country, opposite the city of Concordia (Argentina). Rising to the top of a cliff, 48 meters high, the city is famous for being home to one of the largest dams in the country: Salto Grande. Founded in the 18th century by the Spanish conquistadors, Salto offers also a rich historical centre: visit the Casa del Gobierno, with its sublime architecture, the immense San Juan Bautista Cathedral and the cultural centre of the Gran Hotel Concordia.

The best way to soak up the atmosphere of the city is a stroll along the Costanera. This walk along the Rio Uruguay River takes you to beautiful sandy beaches. You can also explore the port of Salto, a district that has recently been redeveloped and is now very trendy and contemporary. A little further, just ten kilometres from the city centre, there are a number of spas, the most famous of which is Dayman, with its natural hot water pools ideal for relaxation.
